...Okay maybe that's a bit overdramatic. But today, my battery died. It was quite surprising - that battery was installed in April of '99 (into my 1995 900S). See, I stopped at a friend's house after a hot hot hot day of driving around with the A/C on, and turned off the car. Upon realizing that she was not home, I hopped back in after about 45 seconds and turned the ignition. But nothing [good] happened. The electrical system clicked (audible clicks) on and off rapidly, until I released the key at which time the ignition was in the "ON" position and the electrical system was on, but no engine. So I called AAA and some scary dude came and jump-started it, and all was well. Actually no, not at all. All was not well. The radio would not turn on (yes yes I know about the code thing, but it wouldn't turn on at all... yes yes I held down the BAND button etc. etc.), and the horn didn't work (but the beeps from the alarm systrem did). I drove down Route 17 for about 20 minutes in an attempt to recharge the battery, and then I came home and prayed that she would start again when I had to go out later. In the meantime, I checked fuses. Fuse #1 in the engine compartment was blown, as it controls the horn and the horn had died. So I replaced it and all was well. I checked all the radio and instrument fuses, but none had blown. It seems the only one that had blown was the horn, and the horn had worked right before the battery died. When I went to turn the electrical system on to test the horn, I noticed that the SID displayed "CODE IN" and (praise the Lawd) I entered my code and everything worked fine. But it had not asked me for the code prior to my fussing around with the fuses; maybe that was what fixed it? Later I had to go out, and she worked fine. I turned her on and off multiple times and there were no starting problems. Now my question is, what do I do? Get a new battery? It seems to be fine now (well, I guess I better wait till tomorrow morning before I say that - I'm praying it keeps its charge). If it does in fact keep its charge, then maybe the battery was just screwed up by the intense heat, A/C, and the fact that I turned the car on and off quite a few times that day --- a fluke? Hmm. Batteries shouldn't do that. It's a quandry. Help. Thanks.
