It is moisture in the air. The A/C reduces humidity by cooling the air in the chiller (in front of the dash). Usually this humidity becomes water condensing and draining out of the chiller (causing that puddle that grows under right side of engine when you park on a hot, humid day). Sometimes there is too mcuh humidity for the chiller to cope and it "falls out" as a mist as the air comes out the dash vents. (It's a rather complex physics/engineering thing but hope this helps). This has happened often for me (living in a high humidity area). And for Ed G, my refirgerant level seems OK after 3 years ofthis happening.
