I just put Koni's on upfront on my '97SE turbo and the car now feels much more in-control and refined. It also got rid of many of the rattles coming from the front left side of my car. Although I don't have experience with the Viggen rescue kit, I would go with the Konis over the ECU. a) much better ride, b) you are driving a '96 and your shocks are probably pretty worn.
The ECU would be nice, but since you have an MBC you've already got the cheap kick in the pants.
Just my opinions here.
