How incompetent is the mechanic that replaces a seal, without examining the shaft that it rides on? You're due lots of free labor, and also a free seal, on this one my friend. (I only hope that you've charged it on Visa or Mastercard so that you can call your credit card company and have them mediate if need be.) Excuse me....$1500.00, and no solution??? You're due a complete refund. Don't take no for an answer--- your state's Attorney General's consumer division might be of assistance, as well as the BBB.
This begs the issue of why an input shaft is pitted. Mostly, it sort of gets splashed constantly by oil. Externally, it might be affected if your vehicle has been dunked in water. If you know the history of your car--- as in it's not flood damaged, I can't imagine that your input shaft is corroded/pitted. Again, whether it is or not, the guy that took every thing apart should have noticed this extremely evident condition before he put anything back together again.
