Join the club. I am going to retire my 84 C900 (bought new) and am looking at 98 900SEs or maybe a 99 9-3. But I read the notes on TSN and wonder what I'm getting into. Except for regular front caliper replacement, my 84 has been the most painless car imaginable. Change the oil and drive. Tires, exhausts, normal stuff. Every so often something wears out.
From the posts here, it seems the best move is to either lease a new car and make payments forever (to avoid the maintenance hassles and costs) or buy a lease-turnback and get an extended warranty--and hope enough of the bad stuff happens before the wty expires.
The problems most people seem to have are on pre-98 cars, especially 96 and earlier. My indy wrench says he'd rather drive a C900 than any new one.
