I think it can be done as well. Of course, I haven't done it (still on original rotors). I would take the guide pins out as a matter of course, just to clean all the brake and road gunk off of them and lubricate with silicone brake grease.
Smack the outboard pad with a hammer a few times. Use a chisel or screwdriver against the edge of the pad and caliper. Make sure you destroy pad and not the caliper. Boy, you must be pretty hard on the brakes to weld them to the caliper. Are they still the original pads???
