In the P-R, they give the reason for moving the rack to the firewall -- allows you to retain steering control in an accident where a lower mounted rack might be damaged. Sort of makes sense, but a lower rack is still protected behind the engine to some extent. The 9000 also has a subframe mounted rack. At some point, I will install poly bushings where it mounts to the subframe, but the work requires complete removal...not an easy job. (Happily, Abbott does not have a monopoly on polyurethane bushings for the 9000; the lower wishbone bushing (equivalent to the bushing included in your VRK) is under L16 (UK) for both sides!)
Would a replacement set of poly bushings or smaller hold-down straps be possible for your application? Or does the rack brace do about all that can be done already? You could probably buy machinable 90 Shore A thermoplastic polyurethane and fabricate your own bushings with nothing more than a table saw and a band saw.
