I, too, have a 97 900 (SE, not S). Saab recommends either 195/60 15 or 185/65 15 for winter tires. Many who are smarter than I say the narrower tires are better for snow. I can't say for sure but I bought Michelin Arctic-Alpin 185/65 for last year (w/ steel wheels) and was VERY pleased. I live in Boston suburb where we had a heavy snow year. I never even came close to any trouble in the slop and the dry road handling was more than adequate. It looks like the Blizzak WS-50s are nice, but I was swayed by Michelin and TireRacks comments re: dry road handling which, in urban/suburban New England, makes up 90%+ of winter driving.
I have been pleased.
p.s. TireRack doesn't pick up on the 185/65 size for our Saabs, but your owners's manual and/or dealer should.
