it's a new car! (long)

I've owned my '96 900 for nearly 4 months now, and knew it needed some work done. I finally saved enough to bring it to the shop this week to get the input shaft seal and clutch replaced. The car has 225K km (140K miles). They also found a vacuum hose leak, and fixed that, along with 2 axle seals. This was pretty expensive, but at least labor was only $68 CAD ($45 USD) an hour.
When I picked it up, the car behaved completely differently. The clutch is like butter, rattling noises have all disappeared, fuel economy is improved, and the car has more power. They even washed it before I took it home.
On a side note, they had to have it in the shop overnight 2 nights ago, and gave me a 2001 9-3 to drive. I liked the 9-3, but it was an auto, and it just didn't have the same thrill as the stick.
Hopefully this will be the largest expenditure on the car while I own it (probably 3-4 years), but you never can tell with these Saabs. So far I think they are pretty solid cars. With 140K miles on mine, it still looks and drives very well. I know someone with a '95 Neon with 140K miles. The engine fell off the mounts a few months ago, the exhaust manifold leaks, it died on the road last weekend with no warning due to a fuel problem, it has doors that don't shut properly and the suspension is shot. As much as people shit on Saabs sometimes due to their lack of reliability, I think that there are far worse machines on the road for that. With Saabs I think it may be a matter of working out the kinks early on for a long lasting car.
