I'm the guy who posted a while ago that the 1994/95 "GM labelled" washer fluid pumps are CRAP. You did the right thing by smashing it... The integrated check valve and the low water flow is inherent in the piss-poor design.
DON'T replace it with another of the same part #! Buy the 1996+ washer fluid pump and install that instead. Note that you'll need to drill a new hole in the fluid reservoir for the new pump which has a larger intake and patch up the old hole (I used a rubber plug). Then just solder the new fluid pump connections, plug it in and you'll be amazed at the difference in fluid output!
