I have over 130000 miles on my 95SET and started increasing boost in March or February of 2000. If the engine is in good shape than there is no problem. You can change to synthetic at any time, nothing to worry about with that. You could use an engine flush when you change over, as this will remove some of the junk from the dyno oil. Do not extend your first fill of synthetic as synthetic oils do remove deposits and the deposits will contamiate the oil as this happens.

The manifold heat issue is with short hose installs of the MBC and folks getting burns while making adjustments. Just route the MBC lines away from the manifold, behind the turbo intake duct works well. The manifold does not care about the heat. These manifold are being used with higher boosts pressures than you will be attaining.

To avoid knocking conditions in a turbo charged engine the temperatures need to be controlled. Reducing restrictons in the intake and exhaust help do that. Mixture control is important. You cannot expect a proper mixture with dirty injectors. So they need to be kept clean. Low volatility RFG-II fuels are also a problem and dirty injectors can lead to hard starting.
