I drive about 200+ miles daily for my job, and juggle the mileage betweeb 3 cars – 2 of them Saabs: an NG900 and a C900T.

I can feel the differnce after a day's driving. The NG900 is much easier on the driver, while I feel a little more fatigued driving the C900T all day. I think part of the reason is the shifter. I have to lean forward and use my shoulder to shift the Classic, and just a flick of my wrist to shift the new car.

But my old C900T gets more points for the "fun factor." Driving an old Saab is a visceral experience: It's quicker. It slightly smells of oil and exhaust, and a little mildew. I think that earthy combination of odors excites my senses. The purr of the engine echoes thru the cabin. The manual sunroof opens to the sky above me, and the wind fills my car all 4 seasons long. I've an excellent panaramic view of the road. It creeks and groans with every turn, but the sounds are familiar and reassuring. In my mind I compare the experience to what it must be like flying a World War 1 barnstormer.

I get many many more compliments on the C900T than the "new" car. And since I had it painted just recently about a dozen co-workers have asked me if I bought a brand new car! I guess the classic style of the old Saab still looks very modern to some people.

But the NG is a pleasure to drive. It's relaxed, quiet comfort; high tech ergonomic feel appeals to my cerebral cortex. Although I try to drive it ONLY on weekends and when the other cars are in the shop for repairs, I actually prefer the new car.

Gratzie,

– Italiano
