Help Needed on Convertible top !!! Posted by Joe [Email] (#444) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Joe) on Fri, 26 Oct 2001 09:24:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello Guys,
I really need some help on advice with my convertible top. I posted a message two days ago about the rear window leaking. I have a 95 with an old style window which is originally glued on both sides to the inside and outside of the top material.
It seems that the top shrunk and the glue was not holding anymore and the outside part of the top unglued itself from the window. Now, since water started getting in there, the inside material that was also glued to the window started to unglue itself and water started leaking in the car. I went to the dealer and they said there is nothing they can do about it and send me to a glass repair shop which told me that the top shrunk too much for them to stretch it back in place and that they can only glue the inside part with the same stuff they use to hold car windows in place.
I got the car back last night and it looks like a mess....he put lots of black adhesive (I think it's called "policrane" and it is used to hold replaced car windows in place) around the edges and tried to seal the window from inside but since he could not stretch the outside of the top, part of this mess is visible. I was so pissed and worried, I could not sleep last night.
The only dealer fix is to replace the whole top, including window but how long, before this will happened again. If I get the new top model, I will have to buy the window separate since it does not come with the top (just the window is $1100).
The problem is that the top of my material looks in great shape and it does not look used at all.
Do you guys know if I can let the top loose a bit so that I can stretch it back and glue the top part to the window. The guy at the window shop said that it will not last since there will be a lot of pressure because the top shrunk. Are there any adjustment that can be done ?
Really, any help would be appreciated.
Joe
