There have been numerious posts on how to install.

These filters are usually good for well over 100000 miles.

Perhaps you have a CEL from a gas cap that was not tight enough.

Turn on the ignition but do not start the engine. Wait. The light will pulse out the two digit code(s). Not all faults will display this way however.

You need the filter and four new sealing washers and open ended wrenches. The threads are diffenent at each end so that you cannot get it backwards. Later production makes the filter body look backwards... don't worry about that. The filter is below the RH back seat. You can see it at the floor pan level from the rear wheel well.

If a filter is too restrictive from being loaded with dirt, then you would first notice a reduction in peak fuel delivery rates. IE you might be able to accelerate up to 80 then hit a wall and have no more power. At power demands less than that everything would work fine. if that does not sound like your problem, the filter is probably fine. Fuel pumps do fail, but rarely. A weak fuel pump might act like a restictive filter in the beginning.

Give your CEL a few days to clear. Check the fuel cap!
