Be careful changing model years. You would need a matching ECU and they have changed a bit over the years. And the newer ECU's also had some doings with radio? Sorry I don't know the specifics.
Someone else got a replacement used trany and found that the crankcase sensor mount was moved from the block to the bell housing. He ended up with a trany that would work with his engine but there was no place for the crankcase sensor. Never heard about how that resolved. Perhaps the magnet in the flywheel also had a different orientation? Or was it the engine replaced.. anyways he was in a bind!
Perhaps Saab can supply a list of clean swap model years that will be trany and ECU compatable.
It sure would be nice to get the failed parts out to see what failed. But when a rod gets loose the things get flailed and the points of failure can be severely altered. I have rebuild siezed 4 and 8 cylinder engines, but never one with a rod broken loose.
