Put a deposit down tonight on a '96 900 SETC 5-speed. Planning on taking it to an indie mechanic tomorrow for inspection. Everything I have read negative about the 900NG refers to the 95 model (in particular the V6). I know the models were not updated until '97 (new clutch, etc.) but are the '96's any better made than the 95's or do they have all the same problems (5th bow motor, transmission seals, clutch, etc.)? This car is from the dealership that the car was originally purchased from and serviced at its entire life. All service records are available and clean carfax so I feel pretty comfortable with the car so far. Can buy a extended warranty from the dealership. I assume this is a good move considering all the problems that could happen. Which is better, warranty through dealership or through online shop like warrantybynet.com? Any advice would be appreciated.
