Next time it rains, take the Saab out to an EMPTY parking lot (not cars or poles to hit). Floor it to about 20 mph or so. Then slam on the brakes as if you are trying to push the pedal through the firewall. It the pedal pulses and you hear a whole bunch of ratcheting type sounds then the ABS is fine.
If you skid to a stop in a not so controllable manner, then you need to address the ABS system.
So far the only times I have activated the ABS is in snow (usually intentionally) or at the track when braking for a turn while hitting some uneven tarmac that unsettled the rear of the car.
