Stranded in Santa Barbara -- HELP!!!!!!!!

I JUST got my '95 900se (v-6) back from the mechanic two days ago after he installed a new DI cassette. My girlfriend drove the car to Santa Barbara this morning (100 miles) and the minute she got off the interstate and into local traffic, the car stalled and would not start again. After a tow to a local Shell station there, they say they believe it's a fuel pump problem. They won't be able to work on it until tomorrow to find out for sure.
Could this be related to the recent work done on the DI Cassette? Could there be anything else that might be wrong with it? And if it is the fuel pump, what are we looking at ($$$) to fix?
By the way, I spent $3500 in May after the timing belt broke. $700 in July for a new LED display unit. $1,200 in August when the A/C broke down (condenser), and Friday $450 for the cassette (which included new plug wires). That's all on top of other fixes over the past 18 months (brakes, sunroof switch, seat heater, clutch, emergency brake, wiper sprayer). I'm getting to the point where I want to drive the sonofabitch into the nearest lake.
What can I expect next?
Anyway, anybody's help on this particular issue would be greatly appreciated.
