In Europe, they have a great system called RDS which mutes your radio/tape/CD and gives you information about road hazzards or emergency vehicles in your immediate vacinity. The system keeps the antenna up to recieve RDS signals during tape/CD play. Does little good here on our side of the pond, however.
I have seen people jumper a Radio Shack toggle switch into the signal wire from the head unit to the antenna relay which would allow you to put it down with the flip of this switch. The antenna has a power wire (via relay) and a ground wire, as well as a switched power wire from the head unit which causes the relay to close and the antenna to go up or down when power to this signal wire is turned on or off. You would have to get an electrical diagram and locate the appropriate wire, place the switch inline, and locate it somewhere in the "cock"pit (no pun intended on E.D. :) ). Not very hard, but will take a little detective work to find the wire.
Hope this helps,
Nick
