Could be the AIC (Automatic Idle Control) motor...an electronic "valve" which regulates air bypassing the closed throttle at idle and therefore regulating idle speed. They sieze up with age and choke the engine into stalling whenever you come back to idle.

Replacement is very simple and could be done by an 8 year old, but you must first ensure that this is the problem...otherwise you get into the rut of "diagnosis by exclusion", replacing parts until you find the broken one...which gets expensive! The AIC unit is a gold cylinder located on top of the engine, near the throttle, beneath the black plastic box that is the intake resonator.
It hums when it is working, but it could be humming but still malfunctioning. There is a spec to test the resistance across the plug to it, but this can show normal even if it is malfunctioning. The unit consists of an electric servo which turns a mechanical valve. What usually happens is that the valve binds in its travel, but the servo still works, so it hums and tests normal. Some people take them off and clean them with electric parts cleaner. I have tried this and you can too, but it has never worked for me.
