So reading a book till my eyes got heavy and turned out the lights. After a while, major tires squeeling, bang, thud thud roar thud....
What the ****. We ran to the front of the house to look out the windows. It was a bit cold to run out side with nothing on... a warmer evening perhaps. Karen sees a small car in the next door lawn, car takes off.
Go outside with fashlights. Mail box gone, call the cops. We had seen the vehicle make a turn and from the engine noise and timing we knew that it had turned into a condo complex down the side street.
I get dressed. The lawn is covered with glass and tint film, pieces of interior trim, the fuse cover from a Nissan. So I head over to the condos to have a look for a damaged small vehicle with missing dark tint windows on one side. I hook up with to security guys who were over there who spooked the vehicle that took off. They claimed to know the vehicle, riced with blue neon. The picked up the police scanner activity and knew that something was going down.
Back to the house, law enforcement is there. He was not going to take any evidence. We bagged it for him. He was interested after we pointed out a piece of interior plastic trim broken off. That could provide a positive match.
So after this guy became unstunned in the yard, he did what any right thinking dude would do, he took off. But as he departed he took out the next door mail box and dragged it down the street. Scrape marks leading to the condo. OK, we knew that already.
We were not in any mood to sleep so we got in the diesel and started hunting around for the damaged vehicle. Assuming a walk back to the condo's. Just around the corner there is a patch of broken window cubes. I get out and look for further stuff. Over in the gutter a piece of paper. Why would that be laying there in the open after a windy day. Look around the area, and spot the cop in a parking lot doing cop paper work. We drive up and show him the paper. It is a cyngular cell phone cash payment reciept dated Dec 5, the paper shows some odd marks consistant with getting hammered etc. It rained yesterday, and this paper had no evidence of water dammage. So we suggest he come back to the house. We get there and he calls the subscriber cell phone number on the bill. Got him!. This guy had ditched the car and had someone driving him to Topeka. Cop talks him into comming back to Lawrence to talk to the law or else!
So the cops have the vehicle and the driver. He was driving a friends car, ex friend I expect. Driving very fast, spooked himself and locked up the brakes. Major slide on cheap tires, slide sideways up over a barrier curb and the mail box takes out the side window behind his head. College kid just got a major education. Not drunk as expected.
Other than that, yesterday I got the TurboXS small blow off valve which I will be converting to a pop off valve. Very nicely made, quite compact. It looks perfect so far.
