Get the flush that you add to the oil. Probably a 1 quart or 1 liter can. Have the vehicle on stands or whatever before adding it. You must not put any load on the engine with the flush in the oil! So you cannot add and then drive up on ramps.
Someone did this and then could not remove the drain bolt. So if this is the first time you have done the job, try backing out the bolt before you add the flush. The drain bolts will have the head stripped if you use a 12 point socket. You must use a 6 point socket for the drain bolt.
A routine flush is certainly not needed. The Saab engines do not sludge up normally. These are rare events and the causes are not known. Cheap oil, bad thermostat, coolant leak into the oil via a bad heaad gasket, short strips with the engine not getting up to heat, not changing the oil or not changing the filter... Stuck rings would be a result and stuck rings would make things go bad at an accelerated rate.
Mobil One 10w30 is a great product. It will also release crud and help free sticking rings and valves. I had a very slight valve or lifter tick 14 months ago. That was after over 100000 miles on casturd syntec. No problem with that on Mobil One.
Otherwise follow the directions on the can.
The oil will flow very fast during the drain and will drain very completely. Chances of spillage are increased, or at least the amount spilled will be greater.
When you drain the oil in the 2 liter engines, the oil draining from the oil filter mount will trickle for about 10 to 15 minutes, then a air break will occur and the flow will increase quite a bit. So give it time and find something else to do.
If you change the oil in the open, you will find that wind or a breeze can blow oil around in amaising amounts!
