major transmission failure

Greetings all Saabers
I am currently on my 3rd saab, a 1996 900s 5 spd.I bought it with 58,000km, it now has 106,000. I detected a growling noise which I thought was a front wheel bearing, but turned out to be transmission related. The shifter forks, bearings and 5th gear were gone. I am very disappointed with this failure, which has lightened my wallet considerably. My 99 developed a layshaft problem @300,000km and my last 900 went 300,000 with no tranny problems. This is supposedly a stronger transmission, but not in my case, obviously. The car was fully dealer serviced by the previous owner. I am very careful with transmissions in general, my 91 VW has 352,000km, still on the original clutch. Has anybody else had such problems? I have spoken with GM, but since I am out of warranty they offered no help. I think such an early failue would indicate an inherent manufacturing problem but unfortunately I can't prove it so I am out of luck. Any comments or advice are most welcome.
