Pressing the BLACK PANEL button completely extinguishes the orange/amber SID panel, the temp. guage, the tachometer, the fuel level, the odometer, and the turbo boost guage (if the car is so equipped). The speedometer will always remain lit, as it is one of the more important dashboard guages. (On the 9-3 and the 9-5, the speedometer is lit up to 90 MPH, and the button reads NIGHT PANEL as opposed to BLACK PANEL..) Should a fault occur, its respective "idiot light" will show, regardless of the black panel function. None of the other lights (stereo/air conditioning buttons, analog clock and window switches) will ever extinguish unless they are dimmed with the dimmer on the far, far left side of the driver's side dash. Clearly your problem is not an absent-minded use of the black panel function but rather a fuse or circuitry failure. Good luck!
