Update: good news and bad news

Thanks for the suggestions. Here's what's going on:
I went ahead and pulled the radio using four nails (good tip -- I had the special tool with a previous Saab (900 classic) but no longer have it). The 10 amp fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and the radio immediately started to smoke. I didn't even have to turn the key or the radio on. I heard a bit of static out of the rear speakers and watched as this foul smelling white smoke poured from all sides. I quickly pulled the new fuse and removed the radio.
The smoke smell reminds me that just as the radio quit working yesterday, I smelled the same odor. I thought at the time that it was some car's brakes ahead of me -- guess not.
Guess I'll take it to my friendly local Saab dealer for replacement or repair or check out the Clarion repair service?
