Here is a method that can poentially be zero loss... depending on your techique.

Syphon out the fluid from the reservoir. Then run a tube down through the reservoir through hose that comes off the bottom. Then drain via that. That will get the level below the stat so that it will not leak when you remove it. But, as this may neccessitate removal of the heater hoses, there is petential for loss from the heater hoses(s).

When you get the level down that far, you can remove the upper rad hose at the rad and run a tube down its end tank and syphon down to the bottom of the rad.

So try some variations on that theme. But zero loss might not be practical. So the issue is really about having some compatable antifreeze for make up, or flush to know that you have only one type in the system.

I have done zero loss removing rads on other vehicles. But the Saab may be impractical for that. I will find out this spring when I install the lower hose that will allow aa Viggen IC installation.

If you do a flush, after flushing, use a shop vac to get water out of the rad and the heater core. If things are open at the stat or the top of the head you can vac through the water pump too. Suggest flush, vac, flush and vac if you want to have all traces of previous antifreeze removed. The heater and rad will hold large amount of water which will not drain out well unaided.
