Actually, theft is not a big issue. The remote starter automatically locks the doors before engaging, if they weren't already locked. The system then starts the car.
The remote start unit takes a power readings from the ignition circuit and the brake light circuit, which in tandem insures that if the brake pedal is depressed when the ignition switch is not in the "run" position, the autostarter shuts the car off. Therefore, a key is still necessary to move the car, even if you can scan the remote frequency and code. As you know, the brake pedal must be depressed to remove the transmission from Park.
Admittedly a sloppy install might allow a thief to disconnect the wire from the brake line if it were installed at the brake light switch and therefore bypass this system, but this is unlikely if the line is put where it belongs.
