Brake light on instrument panel and warning light

Hello Saabfolks,
I have this problem on my 1997 900S (5 door, 48,500 miles).
When it is cold (less than approx 16 F), the brake light comes on in the instrument cluster, and when I apply the brakes, the warning sound too comes on.
This however, does not occur at higher temperatures (ambient temperatures).
Is there an explanation for this?
Thank You
Rahul
