Jeremy covered a lot of the basics, but for more detailed information before you make your decisions and begin the project, you should read the NG900/9-3 audio guide in the FAQ section of this site. Richard Bevan has done a great job covering all the background information you need to know to make your decisions on how to tackle this.
You can mount an amp for the door speakers in the "stock" location behind the center console kick-panel in the passenger's footwell, but your size options for the amp are very limited since there is very little room there. Search the 9-3 message board for "MTX 2120" for posts I made last year discussing what dimensions will fit. If you decide to go with a larger amp, you will need to mount it somewhere in the hatch and run cables up front to the head unit and the DIN plug connection.
Good luck and ask again if you have more questions!
Mark
