Hello,
I have a 97 900S 2.3L manual transmission with 55k miles on the clock. The car has gone into the dealer for an interim service and to get a couple of minor bits of work done. I just heard from the service guy to be told that the rear rotors are shot and need replacing, along with the pads. The price for this was quoted at US$400. Apparently, the inner pads have siezed resulting in rusting of the inner face of the rotor - sound likely?? I can't say that I have noticed any deterioration in braking, although I have only had the car for 4 months, so maybe they were in this condition from the day I bought it.
I am a reasonably proficient home mechanic - can anyone let me know how tricky a job it is to replace the rear rotors and pads? Any special tools required? How much would I expect to pay for these parts from a non-dealer source?
The dealer also said that the front pads were wearing thin, which would cost $200 to replace - is this an easy job, again, how much might non-dealer pads cost?
Thanks for the help,
Quentin
