Bill H you mentioned about putting replacement quality sealed bearings in your C900 idlers. When I had my NG900 smaller idler above the Alternator off the car the plastic pulley seemed to be moulded around the radius bearing edges so I’m not sure if they can be pressed out. Also, was the bearing inner race solid with just the 13mm bolt hole in it?
I suspect there is something wrong with my tensioner arm assembly as I have measured the gap between the two halves and its .061” I think if this was much less then the belt would sit more centrally on the tensioner wheel. Maybe I will take it off this weekend and see what I can find.
I’m still keen on making aluminium idler pulleys and spent a lot of time last night surfing the net on the specs. for v-ribbed belts. I near gave up but then found a 10 page Volvo Corporate Standard spec on V-ribbed belts. The main points are 3.56mm spacing and an included angle of 40 degs. I do have a Myford lathe (Thanks to my Dad) and I’m sure I will be able to make one even though it might take several attempts. I will let you know how I get on.
SaabTech2.
The bearing you have re lubricated – What material were the shield? The ones on my car seem to be a rubber or plastic material. Also any particular grease you use. I guess these bearings get a fair thrashing as they must run at 2-3 times the crank speed
Thanks,
Martin
