on a post 96 car, ( with OBD2)
It's 4 wire O2 sensor and two of the prongs are gold plated. And I bet it's a reason why they are goldplated.
If you do, make sure you do a hell of a good splice and solder it afterwards plus use shrink tubing to protect the splice.
If you end up with an intermittent check engine light and O2 sensor fault codes, replace the sensor with an original before you dive deeper into fault tracing.
