I have now had the experience that many of you have written about. Up until yesterday, the engine,(belt, pulleys, etc) sounded quiet and smooth. On my way to an out of town conferencec and while exiting the interstate and approaching the stop light, I heard a funny "groan" followed by a squeal of the belt and then the smell of rubber,(definitly a "quickie"). I imediately pulled into a parking lot 'cause with all the reading on this bulletin board, I knew what had happened. Opening the hood verified this.I was able to change the pulley and re-use the belt to get me back on the road. On my way back home, I purchased a replacement belt to change this week end.
I wanted to take this time to say thank you to all you on this board. The information on the board is truley priceless. It has helped me trouble shoot several things with my car and how to keep it running.
Thanks again.
