I have owned 3 9000's. They are among the greatest Saabs every built, IMHO, especially the 93-98's. Smooth, quiet, great performance, very roomy, a great highway cruiser, etc.
I'm actually jelous of you...the 1998 9000CSE is on my list of cars I'd like to own...the last year of production, limited production at that, with the great alloy wheels and the Aero 2.3L high output engine offered for 1998 only.
I would go with the 9000CSE over the 900, esp when you consider the mileage issue.... and EXPECIALLY with a family, the 9000 is a great car to have.
The only down side is that the 9000 automatic transmissions frequently have problems necessitating replacement. Make sure you change the fluid every 12K to maximize its life. My 1991 9000CDT 2.3L lasted 80K on its auto tranny.
No worry though, factory rebuilts are $2200 and install is straightforward. When you consider the maintenance potential on your high mileage 900S, you're probably still betteroff with the 9000. And you may get tons of miles out of the auto...who knows.
Hope this helps,
Nick
