Black Box is only in Europe and more than Saab use it. There was an extensive article several years ago in one of the big 3 car U.S. car magazines on this technology and this information is used in Europe (Volvo, Saab and Mercedes were mentioned in the write up) for using this information in how to make their cars safer. There are also dispatch analysis teams that go the crash sites and measure every aspect of the accident and the car itself. What is interesting is they look at the car in real a real life crashes, not simpulated crashes and make input decisions on new car designs based on that. If you follow U.S crash testing, you will know that we have a substadard system to what is used in Europe. Maybe this is why the big 3 car makers fight government mandates to improve car safety, while the European year after year make their cars safer. Now that GM owns 100% of Saab, can someone tell me how many GM cars now have the anti-whiplash system like SAAB? I didn't think so, the answer is NONE. Safety sells in Europe, but in the U.S. it's all about advertising and rebates. Although there are some smart people, like us, that opt for something better and buy a SAAB or other European vehicle.
