The 7's tend to get deposits and the 6's stay clean. When on boost the air fuel mixure is rich, the tail pipe gets sooty and the plugs get deposits. The plugs need to get hot enough for the deposits to burn off under non boost conditions. Non boost conditions are not that hot.
Some dealers hand out the 6's as parts and explain that they run better. The owners manuals on the older vehicles will still spec the 7's.
If you like the look of the deposits on 7's stay with them. Ones driving habits affect this a lot. For someone doing lots of boost around the city the deposit problems will be worse than those for an expressway commuter.
My plugs are almost white, no build up of anything, slight grey color. I am an expressway commuter. The 7's got quite dark for me, especially on Canadian fuels.
