it could be a bad ground. Also the antenna/antenna wire could be picking up interference in the car wiring. I dont know the specifics, but it has to do with the fact that all live wires create a electromagnetic field around them. Radio antennas and wires can pick this field up, and it is usually results in a high pitched whine coming from the speakers. This used to be observable with someone running an appliance that draws a lot of current (like a vacuum or blender) near a TV antenna, the picture would get "snowy".
Anyway, there are two ways for this to get "inside" the radio. The antenna wire, or the radio ground. Try running the radio with the engine off, it will help limit the number of acessories that could be causeing the noise.
