In Saab's service book on a 97 NG900 V6 it says, Change timingbelt at 65K first time.
In all the service books on 9-5 V6 98 and up it says change the Timing belt at every 60K miles. ( they use the same lenght and width belt, but another configuration of the timing marks)
And all the customers that I have replaced and updated the belt for, I let them go 60K between replacements.
I have seen many belts by now and have yet to see a drycracked or broken one.
We also work on Volvos so we have a pretty good feel about the lifespan of the rubber belt itself, ( Volvo 850 is using 70K replacement interval)and we have very few Volvo 850 coming in with broken belts.
As for your question. No I don't have a source inside Saab's walls but a pretty good feeling about things from working on them.
