Have a '94 900S which is almost like a early 99 in two respects. It handles tigher than the beloved first generation 900 and it is the first year of production with many bugs. Our biggest problems so far have been the cooling system since a couple of hoses went (this never, never happened with older SAABs until they got much older, and the water pump and idler bearings went (separately) without any warning. On the plus side the auto transmission is extremely smooth - much more so than newer cars out of Detroit I have driven, the engine (minus the balance shaft chain) continues to be very robust and the return of the five door 900 body style to the U.S. makes for a very versatile car. The later models are purportedly better, but the early NG900 are now very afordable. Just make sure the oil change intervals have been documented as having been consistantly performed or you may have some premature problems.
