10 pts to the person that can diagnose this
(background: 1996 900s 2.3i A/T)

For the first 1/2 hour running time in the morning (especially if it drops below freezing overnight) I am sure to hear a sharp KNOCK-CRACKLE-KNOCK (the duration of this sound is for less than 2 seconds) if I accelerate like a boy at all from 0 to say 10-20mph ... ie when the shaft really starts to turn. I can only avoid it if I accelerate super slowly.

It can also happen when going over a speed bump/pot hole. So, if it does have anything to do with axel I guess that could still be considered consistent. It doesn't happend right on the change from 1st to 2nd, but in the middle of 1st gear most likely or even right after changing from say 2nd to 3rd, basically anything that jars the car can do it...even deceleration.

In a way, it sounds like somthing is loose. In another way, it sounds like something needs to be regreased. While driving it SOUNDS and FEELS (vibrations in feet) like it is coming from under the driver's seat. I've also sat as a passenger and moved my ears around the compartment, and from inside the car, it does indeed sound like its from under the drivers feet area.

KNOCK KNOCK Knock knock noc and it's gone. Park the car at work, go out for lunch, and it's fine! Something cold heats up (grease or crack or loosey bracket?) and once warm it's fine.

Car is going in for service today, so they'll try to find it, but what do others (you all) think? Any guesses...this is at least a unique guessing game in that your guess may be confirmed or denied when I get it back from it's service (tomorrow). Or, if they DON'T figure it out, and just give it back to me, at least I'll have some second opinions with which to occupy my weekends until I can fix it myself.

Thanks,
Tom.
