Well, there are no problems with a MBC.
You should not increase boost without reducing intake and exhaust restrictions.
When you add more air and more fuel, there will be more heat. These engines are standing up well at 18 to 20 PSI of boost, so using a MBC on a T5 ECU (1994-1999) will produce around 15 PSI of boost. So the MBC equipped vehicles will run with less mechanical stress and thermal stress then the same engines with modified ECUs which produce more power. Compared to a stock engine with intake and exhaust restrictions with an Abbott ECU, the comparision is even more interesting.
You loose the ability of the ECU to reduce boost pressure as a means of coping with knock. Note that no one has every reported a knocking problem with the MBCs.
Increasing the boost on an engine that is not in good condition is asking for trouble. That is basic to any make or model or method. You also need premium fuel, clean injectors and the proper spark plugs... well maintained. Mobil One and better filters suggested.
You will get the raw turbo spoolup rate... some consider this a problem. You have to learn new thottle techniques to maintain traction.
