I don't know about the '98 edition. But I had a '94 edition, in which I had a SIGMA alarm fitted. This included the automatic window close facilty when you armed the alarm.
My honest suggestion is to go with something like the SIGMA alarm. It is just as good as the SAAB one, and includes the auto window close facility that SAAB should have had in the first place.
If you want to confirm if the SAAB alarm is a simple upgrade and get a good price on the SAAB alarm, I recommend to contact a specialist SAAB garage, since they are cheaper in the labour cost. I personally use Two Stroke in Hatfield off the A1, as they are not only good engineers but also sell SAAB parts well below the dealer price.
For the SIGMA alarm, just do search on the internet. Mine was fitted by a company who came to my house with a mobile unit. Took 3 hours and cost me £300 in 1997.
