update on motor (long)

Update on my motor from last week. A rod went through the bottom of the engine block. The motor is now toast! :( My mechanic recommended replacing the motor with a used one rather than rebuilding the motor from a new short block. This is also much cheaper. The estimate for removal of the blown motor, used motor, installation of used motor, new sports exhaust and installation, new plugs, oil, fluids, etc... is $4800.
I contacted the dealer from which I bought my car used. They were not caring or willing to help in any way. Big shock!! I then contacted Saab USA in Atlanta and they were much more caring and apologetic. They told me that if I could prove that I changed the oil every 5000 miles and performed the major services that Saab would participate in settling the repair bill. I asked SAab what the best case scenario would be if I could provide proof of their requirements. They responded that the best that they could do would be $1000. Now the dealer would rebuild the motor using a new short block/ The estimate on the parts WITHOUT labor was $6500!! Expect another $2000-$3000 for labor! So a used motor was a better option for me. Needless to say I am not happy with Saab at the moment.
Will update once I get the car back. Hopefully Friday, Monday for sure.
