No service interval on 4cyl balancechain/timing chain.
As to date, no one have been able to pin point why some of the different 4 cyl engines eat up the sprocket/chains.
Saab may hold the secret, but they have not come forward so far with any information.
It have been a sporadic problem from when the balance shafts where introduced in 1991 in the 9K model.
Some claim lack of oil changes, others, a hardening process that went wrong with the sprockets, a third option is that the tensioner for balance chain is not working properly to keep the tension up.
