You should really try to be more specific with this question. Esp. mileage of the car in question. Use the "search" function prior to posting as many topics have been covered at length in the past.

If you are new to Saabs, get the vehicle you are looking at checked by a dealership or better yet a Saab-only independent mechanic....a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) will really let you know what you are getting.
Get the vehicle's service history from the seller...make SURE Saab's scheduled maintenance (a list of things to be replaced, checked and serviced every 30K) has been done by the book, major repairs done, garaged?, etc.

Common problem spots are the cheap plastic idler pulleys (2) on the serpentine belt which make noise and soon after break and throw the belt.
They are inexpensive to replace, but you will be stranded if they fail.

All in all, if you are looking at an array of years, while the 94-97's are great, there are some arguments for getting a 1998 b/c Saab went back to the hydraulic clutch on this year (if you are looking for a manual)...the cable clutch on the 94-97's has a really crappy feel. Some 1997's have a problem with the head gaskets leaking b/c of improper torquing at the factory...if the problem was caught early retorquing could have solved it.

A Saab is not a Honda. They are maintenance oriented cars....if you take care of them, they will take care of you well beyond 150K miles. If you drive them into the ground and never open the hood, you will have a poor Saab experience.

Hope this helps a little.
