Interesting.
I was in Vancouver, Canada recently visiting my folks. I rotated my tires and looked at my rotors with my father, who told me they had to be machined as they were very grooved. Local brake shop said they can't since they are already below minimum spec for my model year, but then told me my car can't be a 1996 because it is 5 bolt. it must be 1997. I told him, "uh, i think I would know what year my car is and besides, they are all 5 bolt from 94 on."
I don't know if there was some difference in Canada, but it was weird that he was recommending new 1997 rotors, not 1996 rotors. In any case he wouldn't turn mine and I just put em back on and came back home to Portland, OR wondering what the hell he was even talking about...his book DID seem to confirm what he was saying though...i wonder if this is related to your issue? or if you know what's going on here.
Let me know what you decide to do cause I'm running on groovy rotors until I figure which rotors i actually DO need. Mine is a 1996 900 AT 2.3i if you're wondering.
Thanks,
Tom.
