Saab breaks down its "Major Service" as every 30K miles at 35K, 65K, 95K, 125K, etc.
This service is basically a tune-up involving new spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, drivebelt, cabin air filter, and a check of a long list of items around the car including clutch (if manual), transmission, brakes, driveline, suspension, tires, and proper function of all systems in the car.
You should also flush and replace the coolant and replace the thermostat...overheating your Saab b/c of a broken thermostat can cause serious engine problems down the road, don't wait for it to get stuck closed. Also I would recommend flushing and replacing the brake fluid.
I'm not totally sure what shops charge b/c I do my own service. However, if they ACTUALLY do everything on Saab's list I would expect somewhere in the $450-600 range. Plus repair any other needs found on inspection.
I think your decision to go to a Saab-only independent for service is a good one, just make sure its someone who is trustworthy.
BTW, 98 900SETC is correct.
