Tapping noise MY1998 2.0SET

Had been following recent reports on BB regarding 2.3 N/A timing chain/balance shaft failures. Because most reports have come from owners of 2.3N/A, I was a bit suprised when I began to hear tapping noises at idle in my car [purchased new] which is a MY1998 2.0SET with 60,000miles. Noise originates from idle pulley/timing chain cover area.
To date maintenance include: serpentine change at 40k, Oil changes at every 5,000 miles since car was new with Lubro Moly Voli Syntheses 5w40 and OE filter[never let dealer change with house oil], and all basics [plugs, fuel filter, air, coolant, ATF, etc.] at regular intervals.
Will test with stetescope to determine if noise originates from pulleys or inside timing chain cover. Will also remove belt to test further.
If noise indeed points to chains, afraid timing/shaft problem may not be 2.3 issue only, but might affect all Saabs. Perhaps others with late model NG900 2.0SET's can offer similar reports, or lack thereof, so that some determination can be made if chain problems are isolated to 2.3 N/A only.
