Howdy,
My 1996 900S Conv Auto has been a great car(62,000 miles)with hardly a problem to date (except when wife rearended other vehicle). I do have to admit, however, that I have performed only the minimal maintenance. Oil changes have been every 5000, new tires at 45000, but that has been it with the exception of changing an occasional bulb. To be honest, when I brought her to a Saab dealer for the 35,000 mile service and he quoted me $850, I decided that it would be cheaper to do basic maintenace and pay the repair bills, if any.
She (the car, not the wife) is retiring to become the family pleasure vehicle so I am starting to get some maintenance religion. In the last month I have had the engine flushed, the cooling system flushed, replaced the front brake pads, replaced the plugs/wires, replaced serpentine belt, rotated the tires. The mechanic (general, not Saab) said I have a small hole in the mid-pipe which I will swap out in a few month when I fit it in the budget.
The car will get very little use in the next year, so I will save to have a Saab mechanic look over/repair if need key areas. Should I just spring for the 65,000 mile major service? What should that cost (obviously, it will be less because of the tiems I had done at 62000)?
I also have a malfunctioning fuel gauge that would be nice to fix. Any ideas on what is causing it (Shows Max most of the time, occasionally drops to show true reading than shoots back to max), is it something I could check/ possibly fix?
Thanks
