I replaced my cable recently. I replaced it with a "new style" cable which is manually adjustable (as opposed to the previous and unreliable self-adjusting type). I experienced a similar situation and had to go back and adjust the cable again as it had streached a little in its first couple months of use. I did also notice it was more pronounced when the engine was hot...probably b/c the rubber stops on either end of the housing get more pliable with heat.
Check with your dealer and see. I can't recall if the manually adjusting cable was a dealer part or an aftermarket improvement, so I can't comment on whether your dealer would have upgraded to this new cable or not.
Hope this helps.
